The respected Sabarimala Devaswom Tantri has advised that many items brought by Ayyappa devotees in the Irumudikattu for darshan at Sabarimala are unnecessary, such as plastic covers. Devotees are kindly requested to avoid including such items in the Irumudikattu.
Since Sabarimala Temple is located within the Periyar Tiger Reserve, the use of plastic is strictly prohibited. Plastic items in the Irumudikattu can cause environmental harm to the temple and surrounding areas. In line with the Tantri’s guidance, Ayyappa devotees are requested to bring only the following items in the Irumudikattu:
- Front portion of Irumudikattu (to be offered at Sabarimala): Dry rice, ghee-filled coconut, jaggery, bananas, betel leaves, areca nut, and kaaniponnu.
- Back portion of Irumudikattu: A small quantity of rice (to be offered at Sabarimala).
